Nidderdale Way

This walk was very different to the long distance walks I usually do. Rather than doing it properly by starting and finishing at Pateley Bridge as I mention below, I found that I had done a series of circular 'day walks' in the Nidderdale area which comprised the majority of the Nidderdale Way already. So I've collated them within this section and I intend to wrap up any missed bits in future walks.

So I know it's not ideal, but I felt it was still worth categorising as a LDW on my site.

As for the LDW itself, The Nidderdale Way is actually a lovely circular walk within the Nidderdale Valley. It's approximately 53 miles long, with the intended route starting and finishing in Pateley Bridge.

It predominantly follows the river Nidd and leads up the valley above Scar House Reservoir before heading back down and through the village of Ripley.

Attractions along the way include Brimham Rocks, How Stean Gorge, Yorke’s Folly and Ripley Castle with its deer park and gardens.

The route visits several attractive villages such as Middlesmoor, Ramsgill and Ripley.

Although the Nidderdale Way is a low-level route, it does climb the valley sides to follow gritstone edges and moorland fringes to give impressive views over the dale.
