Nidderdale Way - Ramsgill to Pateley Bridge

Parked up alongside the village green in the small hamlet of Ramsgill.

The impressive Yorke Arms is a Michelin-Star restaurant in Ramsgill.

After turning right at Bouthwaite, I headed down the small country lane towards Coville House Farm.

Err... Are you meant to be here ?

Gently does it as I pass by.

Not long before Gouthwaite Reservoir comes into view.

With the reservoir to my right, I start to descent closer to the waters edge.

Gouthwaite Reservoir Dam impounds the River Nidd on it's route from the head of Nidderdale and is the last in a cascade of three reservoirs within the valley, those upstream being Angram and Scar House.

This dam was built between 1893 and 1901 and when I visited today some improvement works were ongoing with a fair amount of construction activities visible.

I skirted the hamlet of Wath alongside the River Nidd.

Busy little Pateley Bridge is the starting and finishing point on the Nidderdale Way, although I haven't really completed it that way, for me it's just been a collection of day trips starting and finishing wherever I fancy.

Today it is my lunch stop.

Quite a bit of country lane walking as I walk out of Pateley Bridge (busy road for a short climb as I connect back to the Nidderdale Way) and head westwards alongside the grounds of Bridgehouse Gate.

Plenty of interesting old mine workings to have a look at as I head down to the bridge to cross the small gill.

Now its time to re-trace my steps back alongside Gouthwaite Reservoir all the way to Ramsgill.
