Scafell Pike & Lingmell Walk

Brackenclose NT Car Park at Wasdale Head.

Not very busy today, with it being early, mid-week and a very poor forecast for the day - this may have put a lot of walkers off today, but it was still very quiet for July.

A helpful signpost to guide us on our way at the beginning of our Brown Tongue route up to Scafell Pike.

It was waterproofs on right from the start.

The wind and rain which was an ever present today, got stronger and heavier as we gained height, especially as we became more exposed on the northern flank.

After a lot of effort walking with a strong to gale force headwind, we arrived at the top of Scafell Pike. This was the first time ever that I have been here without other walkers being here too.

It was isolated - it was an eerie feeling being the only ones here, the wind and rain didn't abate at all though, so it was a couple of quick photo's and then lets head back down asap.

For a minute or so - Robert was the highest person in England.

Not much of a view from the top I'm afraid.

On the way down we left the Brown Tongue path and headed over to bag Lingmell.

I actually prefer the descent down the nose of Lingmell into Wasdale, rather than the stone staircase all the way back to the car park.

Finally we begin to get a bit of a decent view.

Yewbarrow straight ahead, as the heavens open to drench us again as we get close to the car park.

Time to get over to Cockermouth for a night round the pubs.
