The weather forecast appeared favourable, hinting at ideal walking conditions. The prospect of charming pubs along the route added extra appeal, while the possibility of spotting salmon at nearby waterfalls created a sense of anticipation. Most enticing of all was the riverside walk, completely unfamiliar to me and waiting to be experienced. To crown the day, the chance to travel by train added a unique touch to the outing.
The journey required a two-hour drive from Teesside to Settle. Although the Central Lakes were just as accessible within the same travel time, the promise of new sights and experiences made the long trip to Settle very much worthwhile.
