Ullscarf, High Raise, Sergeant's Crag & Eagle Crag from Stonethwaite

Stonethwaite Phone Box - I was surprised, we got a couple of spaces here as there were loads of cars parked on the approach road, so I assumed this would be full too. Just as well, as we were in two cars today, due to me driving over a day later than the boys.

A right turn as we follow the Coast to Coast path.

We are scheduled to reach Eagle Crag later today. Let us hope that the weather improves and the cloud lifts, so we can enjoy the scenery and make the most of our time up there.

As we pause and enjoy our time below the cloud line, there is an opportunity for reflection. Someone in our group appears particularly pensive, perhaps contemplating the conditions or simply taking in the tranquil atmosphere during our ascent. "Should I go to the top or not" I assume he's considering.

Just after the climb up Lining Crag, the path begins to level out a bit and you sense the going will be slightly easier from now on.

Greenup Gill - and nice flagstones to walk on rather than the boggy stuff that you needed to negotiate previously. Another Coast to Coast improvement I guess.

A left turn at the top - The old Cumberland/Westmorland boundary fence posts are a good guide, as they take you all the way to Ullscarf.

Very handy as we are now in the clouds proper.

What's this? suddenly, a warm feeling on the back of my neck, we're coming out and are above the clouds!

Oh Wow, It's a cloud inversion. A really good one too.

Reaching the summit of Ullscarf presented us with a truly striking scene. The surrounding major fells appeared as if they were islands, rising above a vast white sea of cloud that stretched out in every direction. The dense cloud cover resembled soft cotton wool, enveloping the valleys and creating an almost dreamlike landscape. From our vantage point, it felt as though we were standing on the edge of a floating world, with only the highest peaks visible above the ethereal blanket below.

The actual summit of Ullscarf, hardly noticed it to be honest.

I struggled to stop taking photo's - I've picked out a few, but really the photo's don't do it justice.

Robert is so lucky to be able to experience this.

One last one as we head back down into the mist.

Not as nice back down here on Greenup Edge as we initially re-trace our steps before heading up to High Raise.

As we break free of the clouds and get our first glimpse of High Raise.

High Raise summit - much of an annoyance to Robert, who didn't see the point of going to a fell top that he had already been to.

But we did get to enjoy the cloud inversion all over again.

Heading down 'off path' towards Sergeant's Crag. No great concerns, but this is when a GPS is really handy to glance at, to make sure you are headed in the right direction.

And now over to Eagle Crag.

On our way back towards Sergeant's Crag, Robert suggested we go over the ladder stile and see if there's a way down.

You know, I don't think I've ever tried that - Okay, lets give it a go.

It only turned out to be a great descent, a small grassy path could be followed taking you all the way down to the best place to cross Greenup Gill.

As we descended, we could see that the cloud had lifted quite a bit and Lining Crag was now visible in the distance.

An easy crossing of the Gill was presented and soon we were back on the Coast to Coast path.

It's certainly brightening up as we re-trace our steps back down towards Stonethwaite.

One last glance back towards Eagle Crag as our thoughts turn towards the real and craft ale pubs of Keswick for our night out.

Stonethwaite and it's collection of white buildings appear ahead of us. As we near the end of the days walking.

A different walk today - one specifically devised to bag Robert three fells that he hadn't been to before, and wrap up his Central Fells collection.
