Grimwith Reservoir, Burnsall, Appletreewick and Trollers Gill circular walk.
3D outline of route
Parking
A nice large car park at Grimwith Reservoir - free too.
The start of the Lakeside walk - it's about 4 miles all the way round.
Soon you head down to the waterside and follow the path around the reservoir
A thatched stone cottage ??
A bit choppy today - it is a bit breezy too, but still mild enough to wear shorts.
Crossing Gate Up Gill
A brief spell away from the waters edge as I walk around a copse or two at the western side of the lake.
Finally time to leave the reservoir behind and head south along the farm track.
Bumped into a farmer along this track - we spent 10 minutes putting the world to rights.
Crossing the B6265.
A little bit of country lane walking before I reach my turning point as I cross the stile and head over the lush green fields.
A few dry stone walls to cross with the narrow gates and steps before the River Wharfe comes into view.
Now that's a view!
Stunning countryside surrounding the Dales town of Burnsall.
Crossing the Wharfe at the Burnsall Bridge.
I didn't need to, but I crossed the bridge and enjoyed a coffee and a sandwich sitting on the other side of the river enjoying the beauty of Burnsall.
Then it was time to join the 'Dales Way' and walk alongside the River Wharfe until the turn off to Appletreewick.
The Dales Way is a lovely walk - I would recommend it to anyone.
Arriving at Appletreewick - a couple of farmhouses and a cracking pub
There it is - The Craven Arms, one of my favourites.
A bit further on down the country lane it's a left turn towards Parcevell Hall
Into the Trollers Gill Valley - looks a tad damp !
Following the Gill up through this haunted limestone valley.
There was plenty of evidence of old mine workings around here, but it certainly was a pleasant walk through this sheltered valley.
I turned left a little further up and followed a gentle track uphill.
Looking back down towards the Gill.
The track gradually meandered its way up and out of Trollers Gill.
Open moorland as I find my way back and head towards the car park
Grimwith Reservoir comes into view as my walk nears it's end.
