Roseberry Topping.

I had planned for a day out to the lakes today, but unfortunately we have had some family issues recently which meant I shouldn't really be travelling too far.

So I opted for a couple of hours walking around an area I know very well and one that is within easy reach from home.

You can't fail to enjoy a walk around Roseberry Topping - it's a location that is very close to my heart. I've been here so many times over my lifetime, but I'm sure to be here again very soon.

Parking

Easy parking at the top of Aireyholme Lane

A few minutes up the lane it's time to turn left and onto the farmland (or around it really).

A good family friend - a lovely chap.

Roseberry Topping dominates the view for most of the day.

Not before long I am heading directly towards the Teesside Matterhorn.

Passing the stone folly on the way.

Looks tough - but it's really just a gentle climb up a nicely prepared stepped path.

Saturday afternoon in good weather - as expected, it was very busy up here.

It was a blizzard up here a couple of months ago when I last visited.

Looking down towards Newton-under-Roseberry from the summit.

Now to head eastwards over to Newton and Great Ayton Moors. A bit of a down and up.

How many times have I taken this photo - I do apologise, but its just a classic.

The flat path across the moorland along the edge of the escarpment - although you wouldn't actually realise it.

Captain Cooks monument can just be seen in the distance.

Heading down the steps to the busy car park at Gribdale Gate.

I decided to take the footpath down to the houses at Gribdale Terrace. You can follow the country lane if preferred, but there was quite a bit of traffic today, so I stuck to the footpath.
