Great Borne, Starling Dodd & the High Stile Ridge behind Ennerdale Water
Now - even though I've walked this a few times before I still managed to make a right mess of the start of this walk. I missed the path through the woods (which would have come out by this stile) and had to ascend off path via a fence and gully. Not a great way to begin.
My unplanned route came up roughly where the fence is. Luckily no one will ever know !
Looking back down the path to the summit of Crag Fell
At Crag Fell summit looking over at Pillar in the distance
Ennerdale Water - always stunning
Roughly at the top of Iron Crag on the way to Caw Fell with Pillar getting closer
Nearing the summit of Caw Fell
Looking back to Little Gowder Crag on the ascent to Haycock
The Scafells from the summit of Haycock
The grassy descent to Tewit How
Looking towards Long Crag and Steeple
Back down to ground level - I chose to go back round the southern side of the lake today, think it takes a lot longer (and is harder work) that the flatter way round the far side - but both routes are good - so take your pick.
