Cat Bells, Maiden Moor & High Spy

Tuesday 25th October 2016

We parked up near Hawes End at the new 'field' car park serving the many walkers wanting to climb Cat Bells - We joined the crowds and headed up Cat Bells passing many people in jeans and trainers - Am I turning into a fell walking snob ??

Due to it's beauty, the spectacular views of Derwent Water and its ease of access, Cat Bells is always popular with most people visiting the lakes - and I'm pleased it gives a wonderul glimpse of what the lakes has to offer and possibly inspires some to do more fell walking.

After the short sharp and not insignificant climb up Cat Bells, the ascent eases and Maiden Moor and High Spy are visited by us with a lot fewer people around. After High Spy we head for Rigghead Quarries and then picked up the Cumbria Way to Grange where we enjoyed our cream tea treat.

The last stretch was along the road past Manesty and Brandelhow back to the car park.

A lovely circular walk with great views and interesting places to visit - I was tempted to nip up Castle Crag too, but was out voted !
