Ullscarf, Standing Crag & Grange Fell

Saturday 26th November 2016

A glorious walk in the deep snow today, these are the best days for Lakeland walking in my opinion. Clear and crisp air, with blue skies and fresh new snow - doesn't get any better. Starting off from the roadside at Stonethwaite, I headed up alongside Greenup Gill to Lining Crag and then onto Greenup Edge itself. The path was extremely icy, but no problem for the microspikes. At Greenup Edge I turned left and ventured into the deep wilderness of soft snow - incredibly hard going for the next mile, with snow above my knees for the majority of the route towards Ullscarf - but so rewarding.

After Ullscarf and Standing Crag, I made my way down to Watendlath via Blea Tarn. Descending back down towards Rosthwaite by the wonderfully named Puddingstone Bank - which included a quick detour to Grange Fell on the way. After Rosthwaite it was the short hop back to Stonethwaite.

My GPS ran out of juice at Watendlath today, so the route map presented doesn't give quite the full story.
