Carrock Fell, High Pike, Knott & Great Calva

Friday 23rd March 2018

This is an excellent walk in the quiet fells behind Skiddaw and Blencathra. We walked all day and didn't see anyone although considering the conditions this was likely the case most places today. We parked up just outside the small village of Mosedale and headed for the 'Apronful of Stones' where we picked out the small path (Rake Trod) which headed up Carrock Fell via a small gully passing all the gabbro rocks on our right. After Carrock Fell it's a bit of a squelch over to Miton Hill where we turned right and bagged High Pike (Caldbeck). Knott was next, but not before we had found shelter in the Lingy Hut for a dry lunch break - we were very appreciative to finally get out of the rain and have a hot drink and sandwich in the relative comfort of this bothy.

After Knott we climbed Great Calva and headed straight down the fence line to pick up the Cumbria Way at Wiley Gill and followed the River Caldew on the flat path back to Mosedale. A wet but still very enjoyable day in these beautiful fells. Due to the rain the camera stayed tucked away today.
