Bowfell & Rossett Pike.

Day 2 of our mini-walking holiday in the Lakes. A slightly easier day than yesterday although Bowfell is still a big climb being the 6th highest Wainwright. The weather was certainly better than yesterday with our only concern being sunburn.

We took the shortest and most straightforward route to Bowfell from Great Langdale – this is straight up 'The Band' to the spectacularly located Three Tarns before a final, steep pull on a loose, stony path to the boulder-strewn summit.

Parking

Old Dungeon Ghyll Car Park was our starting point today.

The lovely flat stroll up to Stool End Farm.

Just after going through the farm, we took a right turn and headed up 'The Band' The climb is relentless and heads straight for Bowfell.

Looking over to the Langdale Pikes as we frequently stop for a breather.

Sumptuous views back down the Great Langdale valley.

As the ground levels slightly, we say goodbye to Ste who heads back down to check out the beer quality in Ambleside.

Arriving at the col between Crinkle Crags and Bowfell.

As we start the final ascent up to Bowfell's summit, Crinkle Crags (No5 top) can be seen with 'Three Tarns' below.

We were there yesterday in the gloom.

Unfortunately the gloom re-appeared when we reached the "shattered pyramid" summit. Clambering over the boulders and naked rock we reached the highest point for the day

As we descend from Bowfell towards Ore Gap, we can just see Esk Pike up ahead through the cloud.

A right turn at Ore Gap as we continue our downward travels towards Angle Tarn.

The uphill path can now be seen - we will be on that in a few minutes time as we head for the easily reached Rossett Pike.

Following the path alongside Rossett Gill as we head down into Mickleden.

Looking back up towards Bowfell and trying to see the Great Slab.

Lovely warm sunshine greets us as we gradually descend into the valley.

A long flat walk back to ODG - One last look back up the valley before we reach the car.
