Blea Rigg from the New Dungeon Ghyll

Sunday 23rd April 2017

A walk up to Blea Rigg from the Car Park at the New Dungeon Ghyll.

I parked up for a few hours to climb up to Blea Rigg by a route that I hadn't taken for many years - the weather was mild and sunny at the start but blizzard conditions prevailed when I was on the ridge ! This just shows you how careful you need to be when deciding what to have in your bag at the start. I was in a T-Shirt and shorts as I set off, but was fully wrapped up with gloves, hats even goggles and spikes two hours later as I was battered by snow, hail and icy winds - and it's nearly May !!

Having had a serene walk around Stickle Tarn I headed up to the fun and games on the Blea Rigg ridge - normally a nice undulating route, today I was glad to do a right turn and head back down via Raw Pike and get back to the Great Langdale valley.
