The Kentmere Horseshoe - Yoke, Ill Bell, Froswick, Mardale Ill Bell, Harter Fell, Kentmere Pike & Shipman Knotts,

Friday 30th September 2011

Kentmere, Garburn Pass, Yoke, Ill Bell, Froswick, Mardale Ill Bell, Nan Bield Pass, Harter Fell, Kentmere Pike & Shipman Knotts.

The Kentmere Horshoe is a demanding walk but worth all the effort for the views you get. I've always done it in a clockwise direction but there's no reason not to walk it the other way round. Starting at Kentmere, parking can be tricky so its always best to go mid week or very early. A couple of times I've been there a kindly farmer has opened up his field for walkers to park up for a nominal fee. Be careful though as I cracked my sump on a concrete block the first time I went off road !

Todays walk was a true classic, it was almost October and the weather was tremendous. Red hot and sunny. It was going to be so hot Paul bought a 6 pack of water bottles from Tesco on the way over - this was a good idea, unfortunately a mile into the walk he realised he had bought 'sparkling' water rather than still !! Not ideal when wanting to gulp and quench your thirst !

A fantastic day was had, with a nice beer garden meal in the Eagle & Child at Staveley on the way back.
