Miterdale.
A fantastic spot to park up - A real little beauty spot this is - puts you in a great mood for the walk ahead.
Leaving the car park and heading towards Miterdale Forest
From Whin Rigg the fells Red Pike, Pillar, Yewbarrow, Kirk Fell & Great Gable can be seen
Seatallan & Middle Fell can be seen on this one too
Looking down one of those steep gullies down to Wast Water
Do views get any better than this ?
Wast Water and it's fells in all their glory - This truly is a walk that everyone should experience
A view from Illgill Head to Wasdale Head with (L-R) Yewbarrow, Kirk Fell, Great Gable and the nose of Lingmell
Looking Eastwards, Lingmell and Scafell now come into view
Down and then up to Scafell
Halfway down - nice place to stop for lunch
There's a feint path up to Scafell from here (I always loose it at some point though) - you would have expected something more well established for the second highest mountain in England - I usually end up finding my own way until you reach the later stages when a loose slate type path is reached.
Scafell is extremely quiet compared to it's more illustrious neighbour. But being at the top is far better than the Pike
Pretty Impressive
The very challenging Yewbarrow
Scafell summit with Scafell Pike summit in the distance
Esk Pike, Bowfell & Crinkle Crags from Scafell summit
As I head over to Slight Side you can look down Eskdale
Looking westwards you can see Burnmoor Tarn - I'll be heading there soon.
More views of Upper Eskdale leading towards Esk Hause with Esk Pike & Bowfell on the right
Scafell Pike & Ill Crag
Anything with 'Moss' in the name always gives concern - but I managed to negotiate this reasonably okay - Crossing Quagrigg Moss as I head for Great How
I had hoped to drop down to Burnmoor Tarn from Great How - but there were no paths and it was too steep, so I veered to the right and picked up a small stream before heading downwards and round. The high ferns didn't help and this was not always straightforward. I would have been better off avoiding the Quagrigg Moss & Great How and heading straight to Burnmoor Tarn from Slight Side.
Heading over Eskdale Moor and looking back to Burnmoor Tarn.
It was a pleasant walk back to the car from here following the route of the River Mite
