Ullock Pike, Long Side, Carl Side & Dodd

Saturday 24th August 2019

A near perfect day out in the Northern Fells walking one of my favourite routes (The Ullock Pike Ridge). The weather was lovely, although some of the distant fells were a bit 'hazy' due to the warm temperatures.

We parked up on the roadside near the Ravenstone Manor Hotel and headed up Ullock Pike via the Allendale Ramble, and continued along the ridge to reach Long Side & Carl Side. We were tempted to add on a visit to Skiddaw Little Man and Lonsdale Fell and make it a much bigger walk - but we decided to stick to our original plan bearing in mind Paul hadn't done a Lakeland walk for some time and we thought it wise to ease him back in.

We 'descended' down to Dodd and then followed the forestry road/track around Dodd to the Osprey viewing point where the very friendly & knowledgeable RSPB representatives tried to find the Ospreys for us with their very powerful telescopes. No luck, but we did spot other birds and had a nice chat with them all.

After that, it was back to the car via Dodd wood and a lovely cool beer in the Ravenstone Manor Hotel. A great day out.
