South Devon Day 6 - Brixham (Berry Head) to Torquay

Brixham would have been our night out last night, but for the heavy rain storms that developed - so it was good to have a glance around to see what we had missed. As we were both tired after yesterdays exertions, we agreed wandering around looking for somewhere to eat in the pouring rain plus sitting (damp) in a pub wasn't exactly ideal - and that we had made the right call. But Brixham looked okay, and had circumstances been different, I'm sure we would probably have enjoyed it.

Apparently these painted sheds are not for gardeners - they are for beach goers and actually cost a lot of money to be housed at such prime locations. Strange that none of them were in use on a sunny summers day?

Looking back along the coast, Berry Head can still be seen in the distance - Our starting point for todays walk.

We walked underneath and then alongside railway lines through Goodrington, we were pleasantly surprised to see an old Great Western steam engine pushing/pulling old carriages in the countryside along the coast of Torbay, linking the resort of Paignton with Dartmouth. Old habits die hard - so many a photo was taken.

Seemed a pretty busy little line as we say many engines pass by - possibly the same one going back and forth mind!

And here we are - Didn't know about Agatha Christine. Holiday destination for me as a child once, wonder if it has changed at all?

Very easy walking for a few miles past hundreds of holidaymakers, must remember not to say 'hello' to everyone for a while as they will think I'm weird.

The population of Torquay triples during the summer months - with its warm climate, holidaymakers flock their to enjoy the sun, beaches and entertainments of the area. We had decided that it wasn't really the place for us, so planned our stay in the smaller Babbacombe further round the coast. It's probably classed as a suburb of Torquay, but just far enough away to be a town in it's own right. Let's see what it's like.

Seems a long way away now, but our last nights 'stay' can still be seen at Berry Head on the other side of the bay.

Through the trees the cove can just be seen. Soon afterwards we headed inland slightly through the rather grim Babbacombe Town road to our guest house. Fortunately, there were some nice bars and restaurants at the cliff front of the town so we were able to enjoy a good night out nearby.
