South Devon Day 5 - Strete to Brixham (Berry Head)

We said goodbye to the lovely Ingrid and thanked her again for all the kindness she had shown us. Our stay was excellent, with lemon cake upon arrival, help with getting to the pub and back (See Day 4) and a lovely breakfast to set us up for the very long day ahead.

The pub that we should have been visiting the evening before. The small village shop just a bit further on was open, so we stocked up on supplies for the long day ahead.

Bit rough out there today - most are staying tucked up further upstream.

We picked up cracking pasties and slices of walnut & date flapjacks here - could have walked all the way back to Strete on one of those flapjacks!

Mistake of the day! Read the signpost - Does it say Coast Path & Does it have the Acorn sign? Nope, it doesn't! Didn't stop us from going all the way down to the jetty and starting to get worried as it wasn't running - Phew - wrong ferry.

A wander around Dartmouth whilst we waited for the ferry to return.

After an initial scare that the ferries weren't running today - we realised that we had gone to the first ferry point, whereas the correct one is more or less in the town centre. Here it is - one with cars too, it just goes continuously back and forth to Kingswear, no need to wave, ring a bell or drop a board here!

We did enjoy a look around some of the many gun emplacements and tried to wonder what certain features were for.

After visiting another lookout station, we headed out to 'Outer Froward Point' (spelt correctly I may add) and viewed the Mew Stone.

Hard walking in this area - we were certainly earning our beer on this one.

Now for the "Are you Mad" receptionist statement, secretly it made us feel good - but not as good as the Indoor Pool, Sauna & Jacuzzi made us feel. That evening, the heavens opened and our plan of walking into Brixham was cancelled. We were both tired after the days exertions and couldn't face getting soaked, so we booked into the hotel restaurant and had probably the best meal on the walk - Well Done Berry Head.
