Skipton & Gargrave circular walk.
I had never walked in the Skipton area before and since I had to go over to Whalley Warm & Dry (near Clitheroe) for some new footwear, I decided to spend the afternoon in that area when I was all kitted out.
I also decided to mix the beautiful Yorkshire Dales countryside with a more serene section of canal walking plus visits to Skipton and its impressive medieval castle. This walk was perfect for an afternoon only walk. It was reasonably long at 13 miles, but other than the ascent of Sharp Haw, there was only limited hard work throughout. I noted my walk duration as four- and three-quarter hours, but I also realised that I had had no stops throughout, other than some sightseeing in Skipton.
I chose to park at Gargrave, a pretty little town with loads of easy parking compared to Skipton's busy town centre. This also had the benefit of doing most the ascent first before the leisurely stroll back along the canal later in the day. So, my route was Gargrave, Flasby, Sharp Haw, Skipton and then the Liverpool Leeds canal.
A great day out in a beautiful area.
