Grasmere (A591) at 08:30 - Plenty of spaces on this Saturday morning - but I bet it fills up as the morning goes on as Saturday is the best weather wise this weekend
That's where I'm headed for today
Quiet Grasmere
Just in case I was unsure - Well signposted today
And again … May not need my map today if this carries on !
The gentle ascent at the beginning of this walk
A glimpse through the trees towards Stone Arthur
On the ascent to Silver How. Looking back towards the Fairfield Horseshoe with Stone Arthur & Seat Sandal also in view.
Crossing Wray Gill
Silver How
Langdale Pikes in the distance
Silver How summit
Stunning views from the top - Here we have Grasmere and Rydal Water
Leaving Silver How and heading for Blea Rigg
Passing Lang How on the way - very soft underfoot today, we've had a pretty wet last few weeks so I think todays walk will be soggy at times.
A lovely view into Great Langdale at this vantage point - Can see Side Pike sticking up at the right hand end of Lingmoor Fell. Must have a visit there soon.
Blea Crag/Blea Rigg ahead
First sight of Easedale Tarn below Blea Rigg
Blea Rigg summit
Codale Tarn.
Not long after this I turned right and headed down to the tarn
Codale and Easedale Tarn with Belles Knott in between. I've never been to the top of Belles Knott - I think I'll pop up there when I pass by.
The junction - the main path going off to the right goes back down the Easedale Valley to Grasmere. I turned left and headed towards Coledale Tarn
Belles Knott summit
And again ...
A small path alongside the Tarn as I head towards Tarn Crag - Great place for wild camping round here I suspect !
After the short but soggy climb up Tarn Crag I asked this chap the "way to the summit ?" He didn't seem to know - but my embarrassment was complete when out of nowhere a fellow walker appeared - He'd obviously heard me, a 'sheepish' "Hello" from me and a smirk from him !.
I hadn't seen a soul for the last hour and this fell is one of the quietest in the lake district, Typical !! Oh well, the dangers of walking on your own.
Didn't need directions anyway
Cracking view from the top.
Tarn Crag summit
After leaving Tarn Crag I headed (mainly off path) northwards around the head of the valley. This was straightforward, but could be tricky in poor visibility. I could see my next destination (Calf Crag) after a while so it was just a case of heading in the right direction until I could pick up the path coming down from High Raise.
Looking back up the path that leads to High Raise and Sergeant Man
Glorious sunshine now after a few showers - Looking back to the col where the C2C path crosses as it comes down from Greenup Gill.
Calf Crag summit
Leaving Calf Crag and heading along the wide muddy ridge to Gibson Knott
It's wet up here - but it looks even wetter down there !
Gibson Knott summit
Last stop for the day - Helm Crag ahead
The Howitzer
Bit tricky - but doable for most
Close Up to the famous 'Lion & the Lamb' one of the most iconic sights in the lakes
