Little Mell Fell - A tiny little 'Wainwright' which can be climbed in about 30 minutes. There's nothing difficult about this fell at all and I usually nip up and down it as an 'out and back' walk. Is it worth it? Well, for those attempting to bag the set of 214, it's a mandatory climb.

Of course, it can be added in with bigger day walks, including Great Mell Fell & Gowbarrow Fell, but this will also necessitate quite a bit of road walking (See other walks on this site) as this is very much an isolated stand-alone fell on the outskirts of the Eastern Lakes.

Parking

A small roadside lay-by gives more than sufficient parking for the few walkers who decide to climb this diminutive Eastern Fell. Little Mell Fell can be seen in the backgound - Yes, that's it!

Up and over the stile and the path to the summit can clearly be seen all the way up.

Not long now, no false summits on this tiddler.

The summit of Little Mell Fell is marked by an Ordnance Survey Trig Point. Not bad for a little bump the size of Roseberry Topping.

One thing that Little Mell Fell does have to its credit, is that it has lovely views over to the picturesque Ullswater and the surrounding fells. Here we can see (L-R) Loadpot Hill, Wether Hill, Steel Knotts, Hallin Fell, Beda Fell and Place Fell, plus many more in the distance. To the East, the Pennines can be seen in the distance beyond the Vale of Eden.

A final closer look at the tree lined Hallin Fell and Martindale. Right - that's filled half an hour.
