Linton Falls, Burnsall, & Grassington circular walk.

A really enjoyable walk in Wharfedale visiting a handful of Dales villages whilst walking through lush green Yorkshire countryside and heading back via the picturesque Dales Way path alongside the River Wharfe itself.

I had just picked up a new pair of boots in Whalley, and as is customary now, I spent the rest of the day walking relatively nearby. It's an area I know quite well, as I've walked around here many times, but I'd never walked the Linton Falls to Burnsall bit via Thorpe. So, I decided to combine this with a walk back alongside the river and call into Grassington on the way.

Its a nice easy stroll, and although it took me the best part of 3 hours (which did involve a picnic stop at Burnsall), I can't say its challenging at all and could probably be done much quicker if I had wanted.

Parking

I parked in the pay and display car park near Linton Falls. It was reasonably quiet but it looks like it's geared up for large crowds of visitors in the summer months.

I decided to leave the falls until the end of my walk, so I walked uphill on the road and headed for the village of Linton itself.

Pretty little village - Linton, and the pub looks good too - I'll have to treat Mrs R to a lunch there next summer.

Leaving Linton behind, as I head slightly uphill out of the village.

Gentle walking across the lush green fields. The path is easily followed.

Soon it was onto the country lane with it's tight dry stone walls. Not a single car went past for the short period I was walking along it all the way to Thorpe.

The tiny hamlet of Thorpe - all quiet here, although the presence of a DPD white van did mess up my photo opportunities.

After Thorpe it was back to the rolling hills and fields - Burnsall and Thorpe Fell can be seen in the distance.

Plenty of these stone steps and gated stiles as I passed from field to field. Barden Fell can be seen straight ahead, way off in the distance.

Buildings starting to appear as I near the outskirts of Burnsall.

Many an enjoyable pint or two sitting in the beer garden here - The Red Lion Burnsall.

No beer for me today though, on this quiet late November afternoon.

Burnsall Bridge. There's been a bridge here over the River Wharfe since the 14th Century.

After a bite to eat, I picked up the Dales Way path and set off alongside the river with Burnsall and Thorpe Fell behind me.

Loop Scar - I always see a Heron walking along this path, and today was no exception. No Kingfishers though.

Some of the more sheltered paths still retained their ochre autumnal coatings.

Arriving at Hebden suspension bridge. Not worth trying the stepping stones today.

There were quite a few couples out walking along this stretch of the river, it must be a nice easy stroll to do if you live local.

Almost back at Linton Falls now, but I'm so close to Grassington, it would be a shame not to pay it a visit.

A pleasant walk around the small town centre of Grassington - No film crews here today.

Then it was back to Linton Falls.
