A charity walk was arranged by The Huntsman pub in Guisborough which my daughters friends went on - hearing about this afterwards, I quite fancied checking it out for myself. It was indeed a lovely circular walk although the day I picked was extremely windy and made for difficult walking in exposed locations. It's not a difficult walk, but at 11 miles - it's reasonably long and care should be given with regards to navigation across the moors.

Parking

Plenty of roadside parking at Gribdale - Just a mile or so past Great Ayton railway station. The usual starting point for a walk to Captain Cooks monument

Teessides very own Matterhorn - Roseberry Topping !! Strictly speaking it's in North Yorkshire - but Smoggies have taken it as their own

Staying on the Cleveland Way towards this great place

There are various ways to ascent Roseberry Topping - today's ascent was from the Eastern side

A view of Teesside in the distance - The beauty of living in Teesside, although heavily industrialised, is that it is surrounded by natural beauty and 15 minutes in the car and you are in wonderful countryside - The Moors & Dales are nearby an also within reasonably easy reach is the lakes

It was so windy you had to crawl to the summit - the girls in the photo and myself decided that the top was slightly on the dangerous side and not to hang around for too long !

Battered by the wind & then a full airborne slip & fall - All in a days stroll !

Highcliffe Nab comes into view

The path bypasses the Nab on the right hand side - after this it's onto the North Yorkshire Moors (Guisborough Moor)

Into the vast expanse of moorland

Heading towards Captain Cooks monument - back on the Cleveland Way now

Approaching the huge monument to Captain Cook which can be seen for many miles around

Roseberry Topping (to the left) can be seen again. These two features on the Cleveland Hills dominate the skyline around Teesside
