Haystacks & Fleetwith Pike

A lovely walk with Gemma & Lauren.

We parked up just outside Buttermere on the Newlands Pass road and walked around the lake before heading off up to Scarth Gap. A lovely bit of hand to rock sees you to the spectacular summit of Haystacks. After lunch at Innominate Tarn, we headed on past Blackbeck Tarn to Fleetwith Pike and then descended down the nose of the fell to Gatesgarth. A stroll along the road back to Buttermere was followed by drinks in The Fish Hotel.

Non stop chatter with two of the most wonderful girls in this world - my daughters. They are a joy to be with as we head for the path towards Scarth gap.

Innominate Tarn - a very special place for all fell walkers

As we finish the sharp descent of Fleetwith Pike - we look back towards the prominent white cross perched on the face of Low Raven Crag. This is a memorial to Fanny Mercer who slipped and fell whilst descending the ridge in 1887. Killed where the cross is now placed. A reminder, perhaps, not to stray from the path and to take care.
