Grike, Crag Fell, Caw Fell & Lank Rigg

It was a bank holiday weekend, so I chose a place where you can always get parked without any problems. The fell road just south of Ennerdale Bridge is suited for this sort of day - Plus Paul needs to bag a handful of Wainwrights in this most western part of the lakes, so the decision was fairly easy.

Leaving the roadside and picking up the main path to Grike via the woodland around Blakeley Moss.

After a short walk from Grike we were greeted with stunning views of Ennerdale from the top of Crag Fell - The High Stile Ridge can be seen on the northern side and all along the southern side to Pillar at the end. Time for a 10 minute sit down with a drink to admire this stunning panorama.

Haycock can be seen left of centre. We had originally considered adding Haycock into todays walk, but decided against it.

One last climb and then it was a stroll across the Caw Fell plateaux to the summit.

Lank Rigg is to the left, but you have to go over Whoap to get to it.

Flushed with success at reaching 170 Wainwrights, Paul decided to take on the navigation for the rest of the walk - he was adamant that he new a better way down the fell and he no longer needed me as a guide. Okay, I'll follow you then - this should be fun.

Unfortunately, Paul's off path was indeed a pleasant and gentle descent and probably quicker than going back to the main Whoap Beck path (the route I would have taken). But as long as he never finds out it will all be okay !
