Base Brown, Green Gable & Great Gable circular walk

All quiet on this Monday morning at Seathwaite. Base Brown is the fell in the background with Seathwaite Fell further to the left, Base Brown was to be my first climb of the day today.

After walking through the farm buildings and picking up the Sour Milk Gill path, I can see the uphill path straight ahead which takes you to Gillercomb. Base Brown is to the left, which is where I will head towards once at the col.

That's where I'm headed. You pick up a slight path further up as you bear to the left around the craggy outcrop.

Heading over to Green Gable, I had expected glorious sunshine today, but unlike the rest of the country, the lakes were shrouded in clouds at about 700m. Disappointing to say the least.

There is a plaque set on the summit rock commemorating those members of the Fell & Rock Climbing Club who died in World War I, an annual memorial service is held here on Remembrance Sunday. There's always loads of people up here that day, but for now I had the summit all to myself. Not that I could see much mind.

As I headed down towards Styhead Pass, I stopped for lunch and the sun began to break through - I was welcomed with refreshing views down into Wasdale - the walk was beginning to pick up and I even started to think about heading elsewhere, but in the end I stuck to my original plan.

The magnificent looking Great End. I'll be visiting there very soon for sure.

Sty Head forms an important navigational and safety point between Great Gable and Scafell Pike, with the placement of the Mountain rescue stretcher box at the head of the tarn. I wonder how often it's used ?
