Grasmere & Rydal Water Walk

A gentle walk of about 5 miles in a truly beautiful area - Grasmere & Rydal are stunning and there's the chance to have a beer or two at the end.

Loughrigg Terrace and Rydal Caves can be visited too if you fancy adding a bit on.

We got the open-top bus back from Rydal today, but the walk back via the Coffin Route would be my choice usually.

Parking

A nice stroll around pretty little Grasmere with a cup of coffee in a cafe to keep Christine happy.

Heading down the Red Bank road and passing our favourite hotel in Grasmere - 'The Grand at Grasmere'

Silver How can be seen in the background.

First glimpse of the lake in the distance. You seem to be walking on the road (slightly uphill) for quite a while before heading back down lakeside.

Ah - there we are, time to head down to the lake

Following the path, but with the lake still out of sight.

And finally, time to enjoy the gentle flat path around the shoreline.

Loughrigg Fell can be seen up ahead.

Now this took a bit of decision making. Chris wanted to go to Rydal caves, but she didn't want to go uphill !

Reluctantly she accepted that a little bit of work would be necessary and we turned right and headed uphill.

Looking back as we commenced the short climb, coincidentally at the same time as the complaining started.

Bluebells in abundance.

We missed out the majority of the Loughrigg Terrace today - but the views were still impressive as we skirted the fell towards the caves.

Nab Scar can also be seen in the distance.

Arriving at Rydal Caves

Not quite as impressive as Cathedral Caves, but always worth a visit.

Enjoying the lovely hot weather we are getting in April for once.

Views of Rydal Water as we head for the pub (The Badger Bar). Usually we would walk back to Grasmere via the Coffin Route, but today we decided to get the open topped bus back for a change.
