Froswick, Ill Bell & Yoke from Troutbeck

Friday 19th January 2024

A day of contrasts - initially a gentle and placid stroll up the pretty Troutbeck Valley and past a calm Troutbeck Tongue, before being battered by very high SW winds as we gained altitude on Froswick and then even more brutal as we gained the main ridge. Certainly a good sense of humour is required when wading through snow of ever changing depths, with a side wind that can hurt with all the spindrift generated. Voices could hardly be heard through all the wind noise. Many a fall was had into the soft bed of snow when a six inch depth suddenly changed to two foot and so on. Hard going yes, but exhilarating all the same and crazy as it may sound, this was a brilliant walk and one that will linger long in our walking memories.
