Elterwater, Skelwith Force, Colwith Force, Cathedral Caves and Slaters Bridge. A lovely circular walk in Little Langdale

There's plenty of parking near or in Elterwater, but this is now mostly pay and display - I was lucky, I managed to get an off road spot just above the village. Good start to what is looking like a good weather day.

The rapid flow of the River Brathay really demonstrates the power of the water as it heads down towards Ambleside.

After a very brief moment on the Little Langdale road - it was back into the woods.

Arriving at Little Langdale Quarries. We followed the path upwards and the caves were reached very soon.

Cathedral Caves main entrance - For a 6' 5" bloke, this was quite challenging for me to get back out again without a scratch or two on the top of my head.

It was really worth the effort - What a spectacular place. We enjoyed exploring the caves and tunnels and stayed for a good half an hour.

There was a handful of folk in the caves, including a group of youngsters on a half term trip. I could imagine this place gets quite busy on a nice weekend in the summer.

Now looking back down into the cave through the large opening that allows the sunlight into the cavern below.

After a bit of fun following the torch on our iPhones, we emerged at the other side of the Quarry. Time for a bite to eat in the sunshine. What a February day.

We had passed this bridge before - but not to worry, at least we are heading the right way.

I'd never been to Cathedral Caves before, neither had I ever seen the 17th Century Slater's Bridge - I can't believe that in the 500 times plus that I've walked in the lakes, that I'd never thought to include these two spectacular places in a walk before.

This walk was Paul's idea - He hit the spot with this one alright.

A great day out and a lovely circular walk in some of the best countryside lakeland has to offer.
