Cleveland Way Day 8 - Scarborough to Filey

The final section of the Cleveland Way takes you from the large and bustling seaside resort of Scarborough along the North Sea coastline to the much smaller seaside town of Filey. The walk generally hugs the clifftops for the most part with very little in the way of challenging climbs - a slight detour away from the coastline is encountered at Osgodby, but other than that, its sea views and beaches all the way. The Cleveland Way officially ends at Filey Brigg, we had left one car in the large car park there, so after our brief celebrations it wasn't long before we were heading for home.

So that's two LDW's completed for us in 2024. Where to next year ??

Parking

Bit damp and overcast as we start today's section at the Sea-Life centre in Scarborough (Scalby Mills)

Gentle walking along the quiet prom with the ruins of Scarborough Castle on top of The Holms in the distance.

"Can I have some Ice Cream Grandad ?"

Now round to the South side of Scarborough - I always preferred the North and the lovely Peasholm Park, but Scarborough was always a great place to visit as a child, whether it was the minature railway, water slide, open air pool or the maritime model battles in Peasholm Park on the North side or the arcades, shops and rides at the South Bay.

I loved it as a kid and then as a dad, I took all my children there many times on numerous camping trips.

Scarborough Spa.

After about 4 miles, we finally gain height and look back over Scarborough's South Bay.

Gentle cliff top walking for the majority of the day.

After a 15minute stop for lunch at Osgodby, sitting on a picnic bench in the warm sunshine, it was back to the cliff tops near Cayton and Tenants Cliffs.

Time to appreciate the coastal views at Lebberston Cliff.

A nice way to finish the Cleveland Way we both agreed, wandering along the gentle path chatting away in the warm sunshine. A far cry from the muddy days we had earlier on on this walk.

Now just to walk along the tops of those cliffs and we will be there.

Filey is now in sight, but so is Filey Brigg - Our end point.

Took us a long time to knock off those 109 miles - but this was the first time we have ever done a LDW in individual sections/day trips. The main walk this year was Dorset, so this was just a little extra treat done over a year and a bit. Nonetheless, two National Trails completed in 2024 though, we're quite proud of that.

Finally, The Cleveland Way is wrapped up. Nice walk alright.

We noticed that the end of the Cleveland Way was also the start/end of the Yorkshire Wolds Way which is another 79 miles south to Hessle, maybe one day we will pick up where we left off today and do that National Trail too - there's just so many good walks to be done, deciding what to do next is always difficult.
