C2C Day 8 - Richmond to Danby Wiske

We had decided to split the Vale of Mowbray up into 2 days rather than one very long one. This gave us two relatively easy days and a chance to recover a bit. It's so flat - hardly any ascent and we still clocked up 14 miles.

This leg was pretty 'average' really - a few interesting places along the way, one was an archaeological dig at the roadworks as we crossed the A1(M) and then at Bolton-on-Swale there was the Church grave/memorial of Henry Jenkins - apparently he was 169 years old ! Other than that the highlight of the day was being joined by Paul and my son Calum a Catterick who surprised us along the way.

As we were not too far away from our homes in Teesside - some relatives also called in to enjoy a good catch up with us on the evening.

Bolton-on-Swale church, resting place of Henry Jenkins (169 years old when he popped his clogs apparently). Wonder how many times he did the Coast to Coast

With the hot sun beating down we stroll into Danby Wiske

Time for a beer and a chat with fellow walkers at our stay for the night - The White Swan
