Buckden, Starbotton & Kettlewell circular walk

As I mentioned - Plenty of good parking in Buckden, although it did cost me a fiver.

I had a little wander around the village before setting off - The Buck Inn, a place we all remember well.

Apologies, but I couldn't resist putting in this photo of me (middle) from 43 years ago sitting on the front steps - Fellow walker Ste alongside and Mike Wilson (the famous folk singer) to my right.

Setting off from the Car Park - you initially go in the direction opposite to what you expect, but be rest assured you soon turn right after the wall and then head southwards in the direction of Kettlewell.

As I slowly climb, I look back to see Buckden down below. The first part of this walk has some ascent, whereas the return leg alongside the River Wharfe is totally flat.

Still climbing on the flanks of Buckden Pike before the marker post signifies a right turn and much easier going.

As the sun came out I enjoyed the views and gentle scenery around the curiously named Knuckle Bone Pasture.

Time to descend down the gentle path to Starbotton - or as it's now known 'Starbucks' !

Whoever did this sign was obviously a mathematician. Probably an old one.

I decided to take the much lower and shorter path to Kettlewell, so took the second signposted path which was just at the southern end of Starbotton (just as you leave the village by the roadside)

The path is more or less parallel with the River Wharfe as it meanders it's way towards Kettlewell with enjoyable views down the valley at all times.

A gentle descent into the pretty Upper Wharfedale village of Kettlewell and it's Anglo-Saxon history.

That's really handy to know.

Decided against having a pint here as the football commentary would be starting later and it would be good to enjoy that on the way home. So best to press on back along the easy Dales Way.

Bank holiday and there were plenty of folk about as I crossed the Wharfe.

There were a few more people on the return route, but it was still exceptionally quiet especially for a Bank Holiday.

A fifteen minute snack break as I watched the wildlife in this most peaceful location.

I wouldn't like to rely on them always, but certainly decent looking stepping stones here - not needed today I may add.

And here we are - A pleasant stroll in one of my all time favourite places - Wharfedale. Just a bit too far away for me to arrange a pub crawl I'm afraid - It would certainly be a good one if I could.

Back at the car park, just in time for Kick-Off.
