Bowfell & Rossett Pike

We started near the New Dungeon Ghyll and headed up 'The Band' to Bowfell . After a lunch stop it was over to Rossett Pike via Ore gap and then Angle Tarn before heading down the stone staircase into Mickleden on our route back. Fantastic weather in amongst some of the best scenery the lakes has on offer. With a very enjoyable pub stop at the end (ODG).

Parking

A nice change - a trip to the lakes without me as the driver ! Very busy in Great Langdale today - probably due to the lovely weather forecasted.

Setting off from the new Dungeon Ghyll car park - across the lovely green fields of Great langdale with a view of Lingmoor (Side Pike mainly) to our left

Heading towards (and thro') Stool End Farm

Starting the ascent of Bowfell via The Band - a quick glance back the way we have come so far.

.... and the direction we are going. Cold Pike can be seen on the left of this photo with Crinkle Crags and its series of five rises and depressions that are very distinctive at the head of the valley

The also very distinctive Langdale Pikes set - with the most recognisable Pike of Stickle bump being on the left hand side and Loft Crag to the right.

Looking back down into Oxendale towards Pike of Blisco - Wetherlam in the Coniston Fells can also be seen in the distance behind it.

A hard test for Paul after a long period without a lakeland walk - true to form though, not a word of complaint !!

A peek over to the 'Great Slab' - easily missed if you stick to the main path

The angry Scafells - Always look good from here, bit hazy with the heat today. I love this view in the winter when the air is crisp and clear and there are snow coverings everywhere.

Esk Pike over there, but we are turning right at Ore Gap just before the path you can see.

Angle Tarn (Yes - another one !). People were enjoying a dip as we walked by today - very hot weather but I bet it was still cold in there.

The source of Langstrath Beck from the tarn - it runs down the beautiful valley of Langstrath and joins up with Greenup Gill heading into Borrowdale and ultimately Derwentwater
