Souther Fell, Blencathra, Mungrisedale Common, Bannerdale Crags & Bowscale Fell

A walk from Mungrisedale to Blencathra via Souther Fell and Scales Fell. Then onto Mungrisedale Common, Bannerdale Crags and Bowscale Fell with a pint or two in the Mill Inn at Mungrisedale to round off a great day.

Parking

First one here (Opposite Mungrisedale village hall) - Weather had initially been forecast to be poor today but nearer to the day it seemed to improve. We had postponed a very special walk to Great Gable for my son due to the potential adverse conditions, but it actually turned out okay on the day.

Over the bridge towards the pub

A right turn off the lane - heading back towards the nose of Souther Fell

As we climb up the front of Souther Fell we can see The Tongue and and Bowscale Fell behind it (The ridge on the skylne will be our descent route later on in the day).

Looking back to Souther Fell

and ahead towards Blencathra as we start to climb Scales Fell

Looking back

After Blencathra we squelched over to Mungrisedale Common. "This is more of a field, than a Fell !"..... remarks Paul.

I like it though - Seen from the Cumbria Way, its a fair old lump and it certainly adds variety to the usual fells - so I don't subscribe to the MC bashing club.
