Latrigg walk from Threlkeld via the Keswick railway line

You can street park in Threlkeld, but I headed for the main Threlkeld Car Park which is just a little higher up and on the outskirts of the village.

There's an honesty box, nothing else - As I'm an honest person I popped a few quid in to the box - Do you believe me? I certainly hope so!

Wandering back down the lane and into Threlkeld.

Somethings going on! I hope it's nothing serious.

Possibly crowd control, as word may have got round that I'm here for the day?

A safe, but uninspiring brief walk alongside the busy A66 before peeling off to the left to pick up the railway path.

The Keswick Lads, Off to the front.

What a moving photograph, I love history and walking in the footsteps of these brave lads 'sort of' brings it into reality.

The photo shows the Keswick Lads heading off to the front in 1914, I stood and read the narrative and realised the significance of what had happened in these parts over a hundred years ago.

What surprised me most was how this single photograph transformed my walk into a deeply thought-provoking experience. The visual reminder of the Keswick Lads’ journey not only fostered a sense of reverence but also strengthened my connection to the past, making the history of the area feel immediate and real.

As the drizzle increased, we both commented upon how the forecasters never seem to get it right - It's supposed to be dry and sunny now!

Always of interest to me, old railway line features - this was becoming a favourite walk of mine.

The River Greta still shows some scars following the Storm Desmond 10 years ago.

It was now raining quite heavily, It was time for our waterproofs as we cross the Greta yet again.

Maybe not the best time to sit and admire the views.

Ah - Up there is the A66 - I'm normally whizzing over there on my way for a days walking in the lakes, all excited without realising that this path actually exists down here.

Our first glance of the little fell (Latrigg) which we will pop up on tour way back to Threlkeld.

Keswick Railway Station - More thoughts of those brave men who left this very spot to go and die for their country.

Looks like it's now part of a pretty nice hotel.

As we wandered through Keswick looking for Craft Ale pubs that were open on a Saturday morning, we walked through the busy market place.

It will have to be the Wetherspoons then - that's bound to be open.

Open it was and nice beer too.

Refreshed, and even happier as the sun started to break through the clouds, we made our way towards Latrigg.

Heading down Spooney Green Lane towards the little fell, as we leave the Briar Rigg Road.

It's not a particularly hard climb - but you do have to put in a little effort compared to the flat railway trail we had got used to.

A small fell, maybe - but the views are spectacular.

I won't try and list the fells, as I can't be bothered, but Cat Bells does stand-out on the other side of Derwentwater.

The metropolis that is Keswick.

Now a pretty decent place for good beer after all these years.

After we walked over the top of Latrigg, we then kept on going and followed the path to Threlkeld with Blencathra in the distance.

The bridge over Glenderaterra Beck - And our lunch stop for the day.

Whilst we enjoyed our sandwiches, we could see the ice cream van down the lane doing a roaring trade - We were now back alongside the railway trail, so many folk could nip over and grab an ice cream.

Bet it's in even more demand in the summer.

One more glance at the majestic Blencathra and it's scary Sharp Edge as we near our destination.

Over the wall and straight to the pub!

A great day out for sure.
