Haycock & Caw Fell walk

Bowness Knott Car Park without the surrounding conifers these days. The mighty duo were all loaded up with supplies and were raring to go.

You also have to pay now ! Thanks Forestry Commission, if it isn't bad enough having to avoid all you lorries clogging up the local roads we now have to pay for the inconvenience. Plus that's the worst and slowest machine I've ever had the 'pleasure' of using - everybody had problems. Great day to have brought two cars too.

Anyway, rant over - time to enjoy the still and beautiful Ennerdale Water.

Crag Fell can be seen on the other side as we consider our chances of cloud free summits later on in the day.

As we cross Smithy Beck (a trickle at best), you can see the huge swathes of land that has been cleared of conifers and the large piles of tree trunks that I guess will be transferred to Biomass Power Stations in due course ? All in a good cause as they are working to eventually re-establish the natural deciduous trees for this area of natural beauty.

Crossing the River Liza

After crossing the wide bridge over the River Liza, we reach the junction - Our route will take us left, but we will return via the path straight ahead.

Another bridge crossing, this time over Deep Gill.

The steep climb up Lingmell - Yes another Lingmell.

Still going strong - and up, as we head towards the summit of Tewit How.

Tewit How summit - But it looks like we will soon lose the views.

Approaching the col between Scoat Fell and Haycock

Now at the col, looking back to where we joined the path and the climb up to Scoat Fell, as we start our final push up to the top of Haycock.

At the top of Haycock a creature appears out of the gloom - Oh no, It's just Steve.

After half an our of walking over it's flat top in the clag, we arrived at the summit of Caw Fell.

The summit of Silver Cove as we headed back to pick up a path down to Ennerdale.

As we descended, we lost the clag and were treat to the wonderful views over to Ennerdale, Great Borne, Starling Dodd and the High Stile Ridge on the other side - A walk we would be doing tomorrow actually.

A gentle descent as we reach the start of the woodland.

All still going strong as we enjoy the late afternoon sunshine and look forward to a night out in Cockermouth.
