Dales Way - Day 4 - Dent to Burneside

There was a large rock in the village celebrating the geologist Adam Sedgwick (1795-1873) - an obvious selfie opportunity we thought.

The Sedbergh Pepperpot building sits just alongside the Dales Way path and I expect is visited by hundreds of walkers each year as they pass. The building is 100 years old although stories differ as its original use. It is commonly thought to have been built as an isolation house for a local land owner’s daughter who had Tuberculosis. It has recently been restored using lottery funding.

As we reach the A683, there is a downpour and it's a few minutes of shelter before getting the waterproofs on.

The path meanders its way alongside the River Dee, it's all lovely riverside strolling - but still haven't spotted a Kingfisher though !

Soon after it's over the main rail line connecting London with Scotland (Western)

Now it's usually fields full of sheep or cows - Green Head Farm (near Grayrigg) seemed to have opted for a slightly different business model. As usual, we start looking away from the path at all the distractions and we miss a right turn - A common occurrence on this trip !

Sprint Mill

After a little bit of confusion on how to get to our pick up town (Burneside) we head down a very busy and narrow road for the last 200 yards - not particularly pleasant. A pint in the Jolly Angler finished the day although we weren't made to feel particularly welcome by the locals - which is rare for us. Never mind - we had Ambleside on the night and that was great ! Only the glory walk to Bowness left to do tomorrow
