We had the chance of a short walk this afternoon, the weather was good and Osmotherley is not too far down the road for us, so a gentle stroll in North Yorkshire was the plan with a drink in the village afterwards.

Cod Beck Reservoir is actually a man-made lake situated within the North York Moors National Park and there are plenty of walking options in and around this pleasant area.

Parked up in the area commonly known as the 'Sheepwash'

Starting our walk in this popular tourist spot.

Heading towards the water via the northern entrance.

Slow down you lot - wait for me, I'm the one with the GPS.

Cod Beck Reservoir.

Very peaceful in the spring sunshine. The circular path around the reservoir is wide and well surfaced in it's entirety.

Completed in 1953 and surrounded by coniferous woodland and moorland, the reservoir is well known to be a vital area for common toads who hibernate on the moorland plus the water body supports brown trout, grayling, bullhead, eel, stone loach, minnow and lamprey.

We turned left at the dam and headed into the woodland - some of which has been recently felled giving a more 'open' impression than had been the case during previous visits.

As the last hundred yards had been slightly uphill, the girls began to lag behind.

Last bit of gentle incline before reaching the main moors track and Osmotherley Moor.

Open moorland as we head back towards the sheepwash.

A much improved track now (previously heavily rutted) as we head down to the famous ford. Well, maybe not that famous.

Still lots to catch up on - as we near the end of the walk.

One last photo in the sunshine at the sheepwash before we head to The Golden Lion in Osmotherley for a nice cold beer. A lovely hour spent in the North Yorkshire countryside.
