Walthwaite Bottom car park is free and a great starting place for many walks
A stroll into Elterwater village
And out the other side walking alongside the stream that feeds into Elter Water itself
Elter Water
Looking back - this was a lovely gentle stroll at the beginning of a reasonably long walk
Skelwith Force
A small bit of road walking and then right turn onto the fell
The gentle walk towards Arnside before turning left for the short ascent up to Black Fell
Black Fell (or Black Crag) - never know which to call this with its summit & Trig Point
A famous spot that always brings a smile - The location that prompted Paul to say "Remind me - Why do we do this" whilst eating our damp sandwiches in pouring rain with a minimal amount of cover from the tree.
Tarn Hows coming into view
A truly wonderful spot in the winter sun to enjoy my coffee & pasta
A bit of company as well
Looking back - A right turn after Tarn Howes to take the path down to Glen Mary Bridge
Yew Tree Tarn
After the gate the path to Uskdale Gap can be followed
Looking back down to the tarn
Now I do make plenty of mistakes with navigation, as probably everybody does - usually tiny ones - but this was a real error. I have done a similar error to this once before in recent times (Hard Knott).
I reached the summit of Holme Fell (or I thought it was) and took some photos but was keen to crack on as other groups were arriving. I was actually on an outcrop (Ivy Crag) and somehow happily pressed on towards the small reservoir (or Holme Tarn) without paying full attention to notice that on my left was the real Holme Fell summit where I have been many times before. Doh !!
Hodge Close Quarry
Stang End
Heading towards Lingmoor - Did consider nipping up but decided against it. You walk round to the right to get to Elterwater
Arriving in Elterwater - the pub was busy doing a great trade
