Arthurs Pike to Wether Hill

I often leave the walking of these fells to a rainy or poor weather day - usually winter time, as it's just about the nearest for me to get to so not affected as much by the short days. But I should make the effort to walk it on a blistering hot summers day to do it justice as the views over Ullswater are so impressive. I park at Roehead where there always seem to be spaces and follow the top of the fells to the South of Ullswater to Wether Hill before turning right and descending into Fusedale. You can get the steamer back to Pooley Bridge if you want to cut out the road or bridleway walk back to the start. The weather today was perfect for a fairly easy winter walk.

Parking

The roadside parking at Roehead - just outside Pooley Bridge

Heading towards the Roman Road which follows the very wide ridge of these fells towards Ambleside

Gently climbing away from Ullswater

As height is gained the views become more impressive

There's a couple of choices when walking this route, you can either follow the direct Roman Road down the middle of the ridge or visit the various summits that hug the edge. Today I chose the latter. On Barton Fell you can see Hallin Fell jutting out into Ullswater at Howtown.
