Arthurs Pike, Bonscale Pike, Loadpot Hill & Wether Hill circular walk

The layby at Roehead, just outside of Pooley Bridge was very icy - so I decided to put my micro-spikes on for a while as I set off.

But they stayed on all day - I think that may be the first time that's ever happened - the ice was present throughout most of the day although it was beginning to thaw at lower levels later in the afternoon.

Through the gate and onto the fellside - see how those spikes were needed.

Arthurs Pike over there to my right was to be the first today.

Turning right at the signpost and onto the Roman Road for a short while.

On the climb up to Arthurs Pike, one of the first vantage points is the summit of White Knott.

Lovely views down to Ullswater as I hug the edge of the Far Eastern Fells.

Next stop is Long Crag - looking back on the path I'd just walked.

It took and hour and a quarter, but I finally made it to the top of Arthurs Pike.

Leaving Bonscale Pike and my next target is Bonscale Pike in the centre of the photo.

As I neared the summit of Bonscale Pike, the views down to Ullswater were stunning - here Hallin Fell can be seen.

I stopped for a few minutes and watched the Ullswater Ferry slowly arrive at the Howtown landing stage.

Time to find a nice vantage point to have a hot coffee and a sandwich. There's not much shelter up here, but I was well wrapped up.

Now onto Loadpot Hill. I noticed a couple of people at the summit trig point and by the time I got there - there were a few more.

Should I head over to Wether Hill? It wasn't in my plan for today - this was as far as I was going to go before heading back via the Roman Road.

I do have time, it won't get dark for a few hours yet - Go on then, I will.

Was it worth it?

Yes of course it was.

To many fells to mention, so I'm not going to bother.

All quiet now at the top of Loadpot Hill.

Walking in the footsteps of the Romans as I head back down.

Never seen that before - on a Friday in January, I'm really surprised about that - this fell walking lark is getting really popular these days.
