Arkengarthdale - Reeth to Langthwaite

A gentle walk following the route of the Arkle Beck from Reeth to Langthwaite and back. This walk sets out from Reeth, one of the dale's best-loved villages in beautiful Swaledale.

Arkengarthdale branches to the north-west and is where todays walk actually took place, first going up the southern side of the pretty Arkengarthdale Valley before veering off left up onto Turf Moor and then back down to Langthwaite before returning back on the opposite side of Arkle Beck to Reeth.

Great place to start or finish a walk, with plenty of excellent routes to choose from - Reeth

We decided not to cross the Arkle Beck by the bridge and keep to the South side going out - with the plan to return on the North side

Bit cold up here chaps as we start the upward walk into Turf Moor

With a bitter and strong headwind - it was quite hard going, albeit just a gradual ascent.

But then a nice and easy stroll back down the hill heading towards the CB Inn (Charles Bathurst) at langthwaite

Time for a coffee and nearly start a fire ! Well I am with my cousin and he hasn't quite got the hang of his jetboil yet !

No chance of a pint today - The Red Lion at Langthwaite. The village was used in the filming the television series All Creatures Great and Small and this pub featured in it.

Langthwaite Bridge

Pity I didn't get a photo as we tried to ford this stream on the way out. Brian went in and thoroughly christened his new boots inside out. So we looked over and smiled as we reminded ourselves of this little mishap !
