Whernside from Ingleton

Roadside parking easy enough in Ingleton after the long drive over this morning

I was planning on parking here - but as there were plenty of spaces before I got here, I grabbed one.

Walking througn Ingleton, I cross the River Doe - It looks like the Doe & Twiss join nearby to form the River Greta

Lovely Dales countryside as the single track lane heads directly for the first climb of the day

This is where I turned left and headed out onto the fell.

The gnarled trees of Twisleton Scar End - I found out why they grow like that on my way back, as I was battered by westerly winds and squally horizontal rain !

The weird and wonderful limestone pavement formations

These stretched for a couple of miles on Twisleton Scar - I walked alongside the main bulk of them on the way back - but was struggling to enjoy the spectacle too much, due to the high winds and rain

Certainly a different type of landscape up here

And now it's easy - just follow the wall all the way.

Not much of a view of Ingleborough.

On West Fell (576m) - I can now see my main target of the day - Whernside (736m)

In between the showers, you could get a glimse of Ingleborough and further awat Pen-y-ghent, but nothing much worth showing from todays photographs.

How strange ? You'd have thought the walker would have noticed if their boot fell off ? A new one too ! Maybe it wasn't a good fit and was discarded on purpose ? we shall never know ! I left it where it was just in case the owner realised they'd left something behind and came looking.

Gloomy and extremely windy up here. Loads of 'three peakers' eating their picnics, huddled on the other side of the wall. The joys of a summer staycation in England !

From the wonderful solitude of the walk from Ingleton to Whernside, the masses were joined on the section of the Yorksire Three Peaks walk that I included. It was only a couple of miles, but the difference was phenominal. Traffic jams, rubbish, poor clothing/footwear choices, dogs running wild terrifying sheep and so many miserable looking faces ! I haven't done the 3 Peaks for a couple of years and was thinking I was overdue another round - After today, Maybe I should leave it a while, certainly wait till all the lovely sunny weather is over (and avoid a weekend !!)

A bit of work has been done on the 3 Peaks descent of Whernside - this wasn't here when I was here last.

Wet and windy - but a nicely engineered path to finish off the descent to Bruntscar

This is where I leave the throng of 3 Peakers - I'm heading for Scar End

A soggy lunch under partial tree covering - at least the views spectacular, as I watch the rain sweep in from the west.

As I re-join the path that started on - I look back to the route I took up West Fell earlier in the day.

Now for the gentle descent from Twistleton Scar to Ingleton and a change of clothes when I get back to the car
