Sale & Ling Fell to Graystones

Sale Fell & Ling Fell together don't make for a long enough walk to merit a day in the lakes, so I decided to add in one of the Winlatter Fells (Graystones) and make it a much larger circular walk. This involved crossing Wythop Moss and also relatively unknown farmland to the West on the return. But as I was on my own, I decided to give it a go. As it turned out - Wyhop Moss was easily crossed as I followed to the right of the direct fence/wall straight across to Graystones. In addition, no real problems were encountered on the off path return via Kirk Fell and meadow/road walking back to the car later on. A different but enjoyable walk today.

Parking

Parked up near Wythop Church - Excellent starting point for todays walk. Everything was good today, warm weather, stunning views, lovely lush green surroundings and an intersesting walk to look forward to.

I often park here when doing a Sale/Ling Fell figure of eight. It's next to Brumston Bridge - just past Wythop Mill

My first view of Wythop Moss - I decided to follow the fence line across - and unless others know of a better route - it seemed fine and was a lot better than I expected

Never been here before - Kirk Fell, a few hundred yards west of Graystones - it's very quiet, so for once I broke a rule and had lunch at a summit with this magnificent view (my favourite Mellbreak in the centre) - would have scarpered had anyone been visiting, but I doubt anyone calls in this week, let alone right now.

I don't mind a bit of country lane walking, especially at the end of a walk providing there's no traffic - I think I saw one car in about an hour - so all's good this way
