A short walk from the North Yorkshire market town of Richmond to the village of Gilling West 3.5 miles to the North via the impressive Aske Estate. I've categorised this walk as 'Easy' and I think it is, although the first 15 minutes from Richmond to the golf course is a bit of a slog uphill.

It can be walked either way with good inter-connecting bus services between the two. I actually did an out and back but have only documented the Richmond to Gilling West leg.

I had planned to go to the lakes today, but due to the excessive winds (Storm Malik) - I decided a lower level walk would be a better choice and leave the lakes for next weekend.

Richmond - On a sunny January day in the Friary Gardens

Leaving Quaker Lane - It is a haul up and out from Richmond via this alleyway.

At Richmond Golf Club - looking back at the golf clubhouse as I venture onto the course itself. The path goes right across the fairways !

Crossing the fairway was interesting - a wave to the group getting ready to tee off and a brisk walk. across I didn't even stop to pick up and pinch the golf balls that I passed along the way.

Looking back as I leave the course, I don't think the golfers have much time for us walkers - we're probably a nuisance and get in the way of their pointless passion for hitting a little ball with a long stick. But hey, each to their own - Mind you, I bet the public right of way was there before the golf course was ?

Bright and breezy as I head out into the open countryside.

Aske Hall is a Georgian country house, with parkland attributed to Capability Brown. It contains an impressive collection of 18th-century furniture, paintings and porcelain apparently, although I think visits from the general public are limited, so I didn't get chance for a look around.
