Offa's Dyke Day 6 - Montgomery to Knucklas
Today we passed the halfway point of the whole walk, which always gives you a good deal of satisfaction - the weather was now lovely and spirits were high. The Dyke was permanently visible and easy to follow although it was the start of the 'Switchbacks' - a series of steep climbs - which generally meant hard work !
A cracking day - but a very hard one, we arrived at Knucklas tired on a very hot evening. We weren't sure where our B&B was, so after walking through the village we asked an old lady where the Castle Inn was ? She thought for a while, and slowly started to prepare to give us directions - this gave us the imprssion we still had a long way to walk and we were fearing the worst, when she slowly declared that it was just round the corner about 30 yards away ! She got us there alright !!
The Castle was a lovely place to stay, the young girl who showed us around suggested that we could go for a walk if we wanted as it's "lovely around here" !! Don't think we considered that one for long after completing 20 miles and 4500' ascent. Anyway, the food was delicious and we had one of the best meals we have had with lovely fresh vegetables - which is nice when you've got used to beer and chips every night. The young girl must have thought we needed building up as she kept treating us to more food throughout the night. A real nice stay !
