Offa's Dyke Day 5 - Llanymynech to Montgomery

Todays route took us alongside the Montgomery Canal, passing the impressively restored Carreghofa Locks - a 15 minute mooch around was definitely in order. It was then into the fields and farmland for many a mile. After Buttington, the trail leaves the Severn and visits the summit of Beacon Ring before reaching the villages of Kingswood and Forden and onto Montgomery (just off the path).

It seemed like an easier day today, although we still managed to cover a total of 22.5 miles. The ascent was considerably less that the previous day so this made the difference although we did have to put up with constant drizzle and rail all day. Pretty damp and soggy by the time we reached the Dragon Hotel in Montgomery so it was lovely to have a dip in the pool - so once refreshed and with clean dry clothing we were able to enjoy a good night out.
