Offa's Dyke Day 11 - Monmouth to Sedbury Cliffs - The last leg

We set off from Monmouth planning to stop at Tintern for the night and finish with a small walk the next day. But when we got to Tintern, we were in fine fettle, the weather was good and we thought - lets just press on and do the last 6 miles today. This was the right idea - the next day was rainy and we were able to let our hair down on the night in Tintern and celebrate the successful end of our walk.

The walk follows the beautiful Wye valley - stunning views over Monmouth and the River Wye were had from The Kymin after a long steep hall up.

Tintern is a magnificent sight with its ruined abbey - a scene for a few photos the next day as we prepare to head for home.

The last stretch to Sedbury Cliffs was pretty average to be honest - we managed to take an old route behind a housing estate which was no longer used and overgrown with thorn bushes - We got cut more on that last 1/2 mile stretch than anywhere else on the whole Offas Dyke path - and that's saying something. But the final few hundred yards were triumphant - Tubs took a photo of us walking towards the finish though the green belt and its the best and my favourite all time photo. It epitomises everything that walking means to me in one shot, it could have been anywhere over the last 200 miles - it just summed up this walk totally - Just a wonderful time.

Dicko & Sian (& Tubs this time) celebrated with us on the symbolic stone marking the end of the path - they had champagne for us all and we enjoyed fun & laughter with them overlooking the Severn Estuary. Now for a great time in Tintern !
