Driesh & Mayer

Saturday 7th November 2015

A trip to Scotland with my son and his pals was a rare treat - They had all watched Saturday afternoon football on Sky TV and vowed to have a weekend at the home of the team that scored the first 3pm goal of the season. Their wait was soon over with a group question "Where's Forfar Athletic".. So the weekend was arranged and I took the opportunity to walk in an area that I've never been to before and what a fantastic walk it was. The young uns went to see Forfar on the Saturday afternoon and we all joined up for a night out in Kirriemuir later on.

I'd heard that Glen Clova was a lovely place to walk, so was quite excited about that and to also bag a couple of Munro's as well. As for the walk, I parked up at the Forrestry Commission car park at Glen Doll and had a wonderful ascent up through the picturesque Corrie Fee which then led up to the extensive rolling plateau above and a visit to the summits of Mayar and Driesh. The descent was on the excellent Kilbo path back to Glendoll forest at the head of Glen Clova.

I looked out for Golden eagles and other birds of prey - but didn't see any I'm afraid
