Day 6 - Kirkby Stephen to Muker.
This section of the route takes us out of Cumbria and into the Yorkshire Dales - You cross the full width of England doing over 200 miles and you only go through two counties ! It's the section everyone dreads - crossing the Pennine bogs. They now have colour coded routes for you to choose from - you're advised which one to take at certain times of the year. We followed convention and didn't really find it difficult, it was far worse the first time I crossed it.
Ravenseat is a must, just for the banter with Amanda and her stories of the kids growing up in the area, she's quite a celebrity now - I felt a bit startstruck ! - Unfortunately the cream teas have been downgraded from proper cream to 'squirty' cream which was a shame - maybe all the kids had nicked all the real stuff ? Anyway - it was lovely chatting with her.
Swaledale is one of the best places in the world - It only just ranks behind the Lakes in my opinion. We reached the Swale in a blaze of sunshine and enjoyed the gentle walk into Muker and were treat to tea and biscuits in the garden at our B&B - Another lovely place (Stoneleigh Cottage).
Our night in the Farmers Arms coincided with an annual event - A 10k run held earlier that day. There were hundreds of runners and their families all inside and outside of the pub - the atmosphere was great and we got to share tables with many people and enjoyed swapping stories.
Another great day !
